Do What Fuels Your Passion

I received a Christmas present in the mail today, a real surprise since the holiday was months ago.

My daughter who lives now in Colorado Springs signed me up for a most interesting publication.  It’s called, Life & Thyme Culinary Story Telling.  It is a 119 page bound publication, published quarterly.  I have received my second copy.

The contributing stories are writers from NYC, London England, Copenhagen Denmark, California, Asheville NC…just to name a few places.  There are no recipes, just stories of culinary impact and how food and cooking have such an important place in our lives.

The photography is beautiful and the soft covered book has the feel of a coffee table offering.   It is lovely. The real story is that its’ not about the eating, it is about what food represents and the nostalgia that's triggered by a dish served by a Mom, or the feeling of belonging eating together with those we care about.  That is exactly what I love about cooking and sharing meals with others.  Living alone now, eating at the kitchen counter an often hastily put together dinner; lacks the joy meal sharing is suppose to have.  Cherish your meal-mates no matter their age.  You are making culinary memories you might not even realize.

I ventured to Culinary School for a season a few year ago and realized it is a very difficult road, no matter the passion for cooking.  I will leave it to the professionals now, and have a soft spot for the “back of the house” as the kitchen is referred to.

No matter where your passion happens to take you; the kitchen or the couch for a bit of evening knitting you are touching the lives of those around you.  They are watching and what fuels our interest is an important part of who we are.

Keep the knitting in place, and the cooking will come.
