To Knit or Read? That is the Dilemma!

Should I knit or should I read?

Should I knit or should I read?

I haven't knit very much this week.

I should, my baskets are over flowing with unfinished projects.  However, I'm hooked on the book I started reading last week.  Except for audio books, it's impossible to read and knit at the same time.  Doing so is a lot like knitting in the bathtub.  That doesn't work out well, don't try it.

Knitting and reading a book is not like knitting in the car on a road trip (as a passenger) or knitting while riding a recumbent exercise bike, or knitting at the movies. It is a task combo too difficult to do at the same time.  I'm sure that is why God gave us only one set of hands and arms.  He wants us to slow down, focus and pay attention to one thing at a time.

We Need Longer Days

Then why didn't God make longer days? It seems something must always be sacrificed at the expense of something else.  Isn't the true? We women are masters at multi-tasking.  I've been known to brush my teeth while getting dressed.  I can talk on the phone for hours while doing the dishes, making beds, or mopping my kitchen floor.  Doing many things at once comes naturally to us.  But, there are just some things that don't pair well together, like reading a good book and knitting a lovely cowl.  Both are simple enough, but each requires attention and focus that can't be easily divided.

So the dilemma....read or knit?  I only have a few more pages to go, so I'll finish my book tonight (in the tub) and be ready to pick up my knitting project tomorrow.

To those with choices to make...I say either way, you come out ahead.
