I'm terrible at sending cards!
I’m not very good at sending cards to people.
I enjoy buying them, searching the racks, to find the one that says the perfect sentiment. I have drawers full of all kinds of greeting and birthday cards waiting to be sent. That is where things break down. I am good at buying cards for people, bad at sending them.
My daughter’s birthday was last month. I was ready to mail her special card to Colorado, and realized I didn’t pick up an envelope. It was an odd size, and searching in my stash of cards, I couldn’t find one that fit. So I had to call her and just tell her about it.
I Love to Buy Never Send
Included in my drawer of cards, I also have a group I’ve purchased, I don’t intend to mail to anyone. I bought them for me. I came across one, searching for the envelope.
The sentiment hit me and I now have that card sitting at my desk. Cards have the job of saying what we feel, and don’t say.
The card said:
“It is important to remember that the beginning can be anywhere along the way.”
And in small print along the side, is written, “your story will have many chapters—maybe volumes each a chance to begin again…fresh start”
That small sentence is exactly where I am in my life, and what I happen to be writing my book about. New beginnings happen all the time. They don’t have to be life altering, although they certainly can come from heartbreak and loss. The launch of something new in your life just needs your courage to start it.
