Last month I entered a club I’ve been waiting to get passage into for years. I have many friends who are members in good standing, some, many times over. I’m a freshman of only 4 weeks and it’s been glorious.
I’ve become a grandma. It’s as splendid as all those who have taken this role before me say it is. There is something too magnificent for words to watch a new life come into this world. With amazement the doctor announced, “I see a head!” and the next thing, a little tiny 5 pound baby girl slipped into her arms. What a joy unspeakable.
I stand shoulder to shoulder with all who have the privilege of taking on this responsibility in a brand new life. What will the world be like for her? Who will influence her? What is the destiny God has planned in advance for her? She’s been given talents, and gifts that will bloom when ready into the mark she is to make in this world. Her purpose is before her, but for now, all she must do is bring delight and happiness to her family and friends that love her.
My daughter and her husband live in Colorado, so for now a plane ride will always be in my link to this little one. I’m not going to be sad about that, but take every opportunity I can to pack a bag and show up at their house. It seems, many things in life, we must make the best of a circumstance. Naturally I would love for this family to live next door, so I would have the opportunity to pour into the daily life of my granddaughter. But, I’ve learned to be grateful for what presents itself and know I can still be a blessing to her.
To all members of this marvelous Grandma club, I will link arms with you. We have been given another chance to love and be loved in a way only a child can. Our hearts have gotten bigger and life has become more brilliant. I can’t wait to show you all the pictures I have on my phone!
Look out!
